Termite Damage Repair

A job thirteen years in the making. Thirteen years ago, my client was relaxing on the couch when they saw a swarm of bugs emerge from their hallway wall and fly away. They contacted the authorities and it was found that they had a termite infestation. Experts were flown from Australia and over a three-year period they fumigated and destroyed all traces at the property and the surrounding 1km radius. They were then directed to not touch the walls for 10 years to be sure that all eggs etc. were dead before moving the effected material off site. This is where I came in.

Client

Jane Wilcox in Patumahoe

Challenge

Transforming an infested house to a liveable home.

Materials used

Structural Timber, Gib, Plaster, Filler, Paint matched to existing Wall colour

All you could see from the outside was a couple of small holes and a slightly damaged skirting board. What was lying behind the wall however was total destruction of the framing timbers in the immediate area. I got in a builder friend to double check my plan to replace these and got to work replacing all the damaged wood and sistering up anything that needed more structure. Happy with that I lined, plastered and painted it all.

Now after thirteen years it’s like new again. The clients were happy that I could take the job from start to finish and didn’t have to contact multiple trades to do their parts, another advantage of a good handyman.
