Replacing rotten timbers for new on these lovely old houses is a pleasure. I am a big fan of the character homes and own a 69-year-old home myself.
To be a part of the houses journey and helping the owners spruce up and make sure they last another 69+ years is an honor. It has its challenges sometimes too, trying to match the old timber dimensions with new and often I’ll have to machine a piece to fit especially.
But it’s all the care and attention that these old houses deserve. I replaced an old door sill, decking, some weatherboards, fascia/barge boards, scribers and window jambs/casings on the Swaine home in Tuakau. I also replaced some weatherboards on a 100-year-old villa for the Mauger family.
